Business Laptops Migrate To Tablets

More signs point to a migration towards tablets and a perfect example is the recent Gartner report which states that PC sales were down in Q1 of this year.

In most industry discussions, migrating to tablets seems to no longer be a question of if, but when.? How quickly will the migration occur?

With tablet sales exploding and PC sales retreating, it would (on the surface) appear to be happening much more quickly than anyone would have guessed.? But the tablet boom continues to be mainly consumer driven, albeit many businesses are starting to look at tablets with serious interest.? Examples abound with new innovative ways companies, large and small, are looking to leverage new flexibility and ease of use offered by tablets.

Security continues to be a big concern.? Every security software vendor is currently working on, or has already announced solutions to help with this concern?which will hopefully allow more businesses to adopt relatively quickly.

The migration may also be limited (at least initially) to niche applications, as opposed to general business use.? The desktop to laptop migration was relatively painless for organizations:? the same OS, same peripherals, same everything, just a different form factor.? Tablets change the game; they really start to force the issue of moving to new paradigms in terms of managing data (i.e. the cloud).? General business productivity tools have yet to reach the same level of productivity for data creation, and in some cases even data retrieval is still best suited to a full laptop.

Provide robust security solutions and better productivity tools and we?ll see tablets become standard issue devices within the organizations around the globe.
