Apple won't release a new version of its hobby, Apple TV, at next week's media event after all according to reports.
Instead, according to AllThingsD's Peter Kafka, Apple will issue a software update for existing devices that brings with it a number of new features and applications including its forthcoming iTunes Radio service.
"Sources said that one new feature in the works will let people who?ve bought content from Apple play that stuff on other users? Apple TVs, via Apple?s Airplay system and Apple?s server," Kafka wrote.
At present, users can only stream content using AirPlay onto Apple TV devices logged in with the same Apple account. To stream onto a friends Apple TV would currently require a user to log out, and then login with the friend's account.
Apple has recently added multiple new content partner apps to the Apple TV including Vevo, the Weather Channel and a couple of Disney channels including?Disney Channel and Disney XD.?
The last update for the Apple TV - which Apple continues to call its hobby project but has sold more than 6 million of in its third generation - was in March last year, when Apple added 1080p capabilities. It again tweaked the internal components of the device in January this year in a minor revision.?
