Some Blind Alleys is looking for a Co-Director | Creative Writing ...

Vacancy
Co-Director, Some Blind Alleys
Director of events with responsibility for social media

Some Blind Alleys is seeking a bright, charismatic, inquisitive and driven Co-Director to plan, publicize, and manage future SBA events, such as readings, lectures, discussions, and more.

The Co-Director will also be responsible for the SBA social media strategy with regard to events, and will update social media sites as part of publicizing events.

The Co-Director?s responsibility will be to communicate with people interested in books and reading, not with people interested in courses. The SBA Creative Writing Workshops will continue to be managed by the Director.

The successful candidate will strengthen and establish relationships with other literary and arts organizations in Ireland and elsewhere, particularly small publishers, as well as print and online journals. The Co-Director will also maintain or establish media and press contacts, and publicize events.

This is a part-time position, and remuneration is extremely modest ? it will be based on a percentage of the entry fee collected at events planned and run by the Co-Director. However, the Co-Director will have access to SBA?s existing audience, and will have considerable freedom in devising events, and in expanding the scope and increasing the visibility of SBA events. It is an ideal position for people interested in gaining experience as an event manager and in working closely with authors and speakers.

Some Blind Alleys is a literary organization that supports new writing in Ireland, and it already has a reputation for bringing large audiences to hear distinguished authors speak on various topics in literature and further afield. These authors, so far, have included Anne Enright, Philip ? Ceallaigh, Brian Dillon, Molly McCloskey, Carlo G?bler, and Kevin Barry. These events have been running since 2009.

We also want to bring speakers from other disciplines. The idea is to offer original and thought-provoking evenings that expand and transform our ideas about literature, art, and culture. We want to support writers of challenging, disturbing, and unorthodox works. And we want to support people who talk about the arts in challenging, disturbing, and unorthodox ways.

SBA events are more than just literary reading nights; and they are about more than just literature. They will reflect the Co-Director?s expansive and deep interest in literature, culture, and the arts, and topics will include issues critical to autobiography, fiction, translation, criticism, theory, visual arts, music, history, science, and more.

The Co-Director will plan a reading series for autumn 2012. There is ample opportunity for the Co-Director to expand the role in the short- and long-term.

To apply, please send a cover letter and CV via email to the Director of Some Blind Alleys by June 22, 2012. Written references may be helpful but are not required. Applicants, when contacted, should be prepared to propose and outline a linked series of events that could run this autumn.

The address is editor at someblindalleys dot com. Or contact SBA using the contact form for more information.
