Green fingered growers gather for Falmouth Allotment Society annual show: PICTURES + RESULTS

Falmouth and District Allotments and Garden Society?s annual show at the weekend was heralded a huge success with almost 40 plot holders submitting entries.
Vegetables, cut flowers, pot plants and domestic produce filled the Emmanuel Baptist Church Hall and there were also classes for novice plot holders and juniors.
The society?s chairman, Robin Waddling, and show secretary, Wendy Aitchison, were thrilled with the level and standard of entries and with the number of people who attended the show.
Although the society has been in existence for decades, the annual show was only resurrected in 2005 after a break of more than 40 years. The first show after the break was held at St Mary?s Church Hall and was so successful that a larger venue had to be found for the following year. The show has remained at the Baptist Hall ever since.
Falmouth?s Mayor, Geoffrey Evans, who is president of the Allotment Society, officially opened the show and presented the trophies. Luke Roberts of Hine Downing Solicitors presented the Hine Downing Cup for best performance in both the vegetable and fruit sections.
The event ended with an auction of all the produce, with some great bargains to be had. All the money raised will be used for show expenses and improvements at the society?s Swanvale site.
Trophy winners: Plot holder of the year, Jimmy Deignan; the Julian?s Cup for the most improved plot in the first year, Trevor Westley; the President?s Cup for the best plot, A site, Duggie Hatton; the President?s Cup for the best plot, B site, Mandy McFarland; the President?s Cup for the best plot, C site, Jeanette Kendall; the Blue Flame Shield for the best top tray in the vegetable section, Mike Stevens; the Vegetable Shield, Dave Payne; the Hine Downing Cup for best performance in both the vegetable and fruit sections, Robin Waddling; the Shed Cup, Paul Raul; the Saundry Cup, Dave Payne; the Geoffrey Evans CC Cup, Mayor of Falmouth for the best sweet pea, Robin Waddling; the Flower Shield, Wendy Loader; the Flower Cup, Nick Jemmett; the Moyle Cup, Mike Stevens; the Bailey?s Country Stores Cup for most points in the fruit section, Robin Waddling; the Falmouth Garden Centre Cup for best mixed fruit exhibit, Sally Oakley; the Marlborough Cup, Mike Stevens; the George Silverwood Cup, Richard Noble; the Novice Cup, Andrew and Sarah Spiller; the Domestic Cup, Jackie Wagland; the Junior Cup, Abby and James.
